8 Day Rajasthan Tour with Jaisalmer — Quick Overview

This is a private 8 days Rajasthan tour package covering Jaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, with a full night at a desert camp on the Sam sand dunes — a genuine Rajasthan tour with desert safari, not a rushed day-trip add-on. It includes a private AC vehicle for the whole route, licensed local guides in each city, 7 nights across handpicked hotels and one desert camp, and all fort entrance sightseeing. Prices start at $1,349 per person (approximately ₹1,12,000), with free cancellation up to 7 days before departure.

Route built by Rajesh Rathore, Jodhpur-based Rajasthan specialist

Built this one around the forts, not just the desert — Jaipur, Mehrangarh in Jodhpur and Jaisalmer Fort are three completely different building styles and three different centuries, and the desert camp at the end is the payoff after three days of city sightseeing, not the whole trip.

Best Time to Visit & the Rajasthan Desert Tour Itinerary

Best Season for This Itinerary

October to March is the only realistic window for this one. Jaisalmer and the Thar Desert regularly cross 45°C (113°F) between April and June, which makes the desert camp genuinely unsafe, not just uncomfortable. Between December and February, desert nights drop close to freezing, so pack warm layers for the camp even though the days stay warm.

Route & Distances

Delhi to Jaipur is about 280 km (5–6 hours). Jaipur to Jodhpur is the longest single leg at roughly 340 km (6–7 hours). Jodhpur to Jaisalmer covers another 330 km (5–6 hours, often with a stop at the Osian Jain temples en route), and the Sam sand dunes are a final 40-minute drive beyond Jaisalmer city. It’s a genuinely long-distance Rajasthan desert tour itinerary — over 1,000 km of driving in total — which is why we spread it across 8 days rather than compressing it. Most 8-day Jaipur-Jodhpur-Jaisalmer packages you’ll find also squeeze in Udaipur, which means less time at each stop; this itinerary keeps to three cities plus the desert so nothing feels rushed — Udaipur is available as an add-on if you’d rather have it (see the FAQ below).

8 Day Rajasthan Tour with Jaisalmer — Overview

Jaipur’s Amber Fort and City Palace, Jodhpur’s Mehrangarh Fort towering over the Blue City, and Jaisalmer’s honey-gold fort still lived-in by families inside its walls — then a night at a desert camp on the Sam sand dunes with a camel safari, folk music and dinner under the stars. If you’d rather keep it to the classic circuit, see our separate Golden Triangle Tour Packages — this one is built for travelers who want to go further west into the real Thar Desert.

The desert camp was the highlight by far — riding out at sunset, dinner around a fire, and waking up to total silence in the dunes.

Three forts in three days sounds like a lot, but Jaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer are so different from each other it never felt repetitive.

Jodhpur's Blue City views from Mehrangarh Fort were the photo everyone asks about since we got home. Glad the itinerary gave it a full day.
